R. Kelly Still Owes $9.9 Million to Survivors as Legal Battle Continues

R. Kelly’s legal troubles are far from over. Despite a 2022 court ruling, the disgraced singer still owes $9.9 million to six survivors who bravely shared their stories in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary.

Originally awarded $10.3 million, the survivors have only received less than $500,000. Now, they’re taking legal action against R. Kelly, his former manager Donnell Russell, and Universal Music—which is still responsible for collecting and distributing his royalties.

The lawsuit stems from an August 2023 ruling, where R. Kelly was ordered to pay $5.1 million in compensatory damages and $4.5 million in punitive damages, plus a daily interest of over $2,400. The survivors argue that Universal should direct all R. Kelly’s royalties to them.

With the case still unfolding, this battle is far from over. The survivors remain determined to hold R. Kelly accountable and get the justice they deserve.
