Makeout Shinobi, a new talent in the R&B/Soul world, has achieved pretty dope milestones as an independent artist. With his single “Conversations” charting – he continues to have great momentum. We spoke with him about his career highlights and successes.

CLOUT: What are your top three biggest career highlights so far?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: Opening for Future at the Barclays Center, headlining international shows in cities like Mexico City, Bogota, and New York City, and charting Top 40 on iTunes R&B with “Conversations.” These milestones have been crucial in solidifying my presence in the industry.
CLOUT: How did it feel to open for Future?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: It was an incredible opportunity. Performing at the Barclays Center exposed my music to a broader audience and marked a significant milestone in my career. Sharing the stage with such a major artist was truly surreal.
CLOUT: What keeps you motivated through tough times in your career?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: The unwavering support from my family, friends, and fans keeps me going. Their encouragement and feedback are pivotal in my continued pursuit of music, especially during challenging times when I might question my path.
CLOUT: Can you share a memorable performance experience?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: One of my most memorable performances was at Toad’s Place in Yale. The energy and engagement from the audience were incredibly affirming, and having my entire crew there made it even more special.
CLOUT: What were some defining moments where you knew music was your path?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: My first official performance at the House of Blues in New Orleans six years ago was a defining moment. The crowd’s reaction and the energy of the live performance confirmed that I was meant to pursue this path. Additionally, receiving overwhelming feedback on my early song releases reinforced my decision to fully commit to a career in music.
CLOUT: What were some of the hardest points where you questioned your career?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: Struggling to get noticed in the early days and feeling lost as an artist were difficult phases that led to doubts about my career choice. There were times when I felt unsure about the direction my music was taking, questioning whether my artistic choices were resonating with my audience.
CLOUT: How did you overcome those doubts?
MAKEOUT SHINOBI: The support from my core fans and breakthroughs in my songwriting reinvigorated my resolve. Their encouragement and feedback have been pivotal in my continued pursuit of music.
