- What is your Business or Businesses?
My name is Jeffrey Cabreja, but many know me as CABREJA. Over the years, my many creative pursuits have led me to make my way into the fashion scene and create a high-end, lifestyle brand focused on creatives and what they’re creating. This brand is known as CABREJA CLOTHING.
- What made you start?
Since I was young, I’ve always used creative means as an outlet to express myself; to take the emotions within and free them. Through different forms such as music and designing, I’ve always leaned towards these artistic fields to express what I’m feeling mentally, physically, and even spiritually in a season. My one goal – To hopefully be a voice and foundation for anyone else who may be experiencing the same. Throughout the years, my venture into the creative world has allowed me to meet so many amazing creatives who are also developing their craft and looking to share their art with the world in hopes to help others. Seeing this, a greater feeling grew within me. I wanted to create something that would be geared towards other creatives. Something that would be a catalyst in jumpstarting their dreams and ultimately, fulfilling their legacy. From this sprouted the idea to create CABREJA CLOTHING; a clothing line with pieces that could be shared worldwide for creatives, with driven statements to encourage and motivate, not only themselves, but those for generations to come.
- What did you want to be when you grew up?
In a sort of odd way, this has always been a question for me that is received with blurred ideas of what I would like to be. For some time, I wanted to be a producer. Then my thinking transitioned to being a recording artist. After some time, I just enjoyed being able to help and provide other creatives with services to grow in their field. But I believe as I get older, I truly desire to just be creative. Whatever that may entail in the season I’m in – I would love to grow up and continue to be able to create and express myself with different forms of art and be an outlet for others who are starting their journey and searching for more.
- Did you think you’d be owning a business someday?
Truly, I did. At heart, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and that’s thanks to my mom – Shoutout to you mom, Xiomara Cabreja. The many different artistic avenues I’ve dabbled in over the years attest to just that. But really, I’ve just never been the type to settle into a regular 9-5 and think THIS is where I’m meant to be in life. Not that anything is wrong with that for those who want to settle – But I know I’m meant to serve a greater purpose with the talents God has given me. I’m glad that I’ve had my family to support me and raise me with a mentality to go after more and chase after bigger dreams.
- What is the most exciting thing that has happened while in business?
Given that we haven’t launched just yet… The feedback to our debut release. I will say… CABREJA CLOTHING wasn’t where it all started. If you know, you know. And for those who do know, CABREJA CLOTHING wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for the love and support that I’ve received from the very beginning. This launch is all possible because of you – you know who you are.
- What would you tell your younger self?
Simple… Hang in there. Keep going. Keep dreaming. Never stop believing and always place your hope and trust in God.
- What is your long term business goals?
I would love for CABREJA, what would stem from this clothing line and be an overarching company in the future, to be a creative hub for other creative entrepreneurs all around the world. The company would serve other creatives in services that advance their art and furthermore host events for them.
- Who’s the biggest inspiration in your life?
Kanye speaks into a lot of the inspiration I’ve pulled throughout the years, not only from a creative perspective, but from an entrepreneurial stand as well.
- If you’ve ever felt like quitting, what kept you going?
My family, my friends, and those around me that believe in me even when I may not have the strength to believe in myself.
- What were some obstacles you’ve had to over come?
What obstacles I haven’t faced may be an easier question lol. From simply over-thinking, through having to learn the knowledge and skills needed to accomplish this, all the way to the execution and showcase of the art, it’s been a battle of overcoming external and internal obstacles.
- What would you say to someone wanting to start a business?
Keep at it and don’t give in to the negative thoughts in your head or the voices around you telling you you’re not good enough. Push through the mud and create that legacy of yours. Keep learning, keep growing, and be open-minded to receive feedback as well. Keep close those supporting and showing love to you and build a team where everyone is helping one another and contributing towards the bigger vision.
