Dame Dash Claims Jay-Z Passed On Signing Lupe Fiasco To Roc-A-Fella

Dame Dash is once again revisiting his complicated history with Jay-Z, and this time the conversation involved Lupe Fiasco and a missed opportunity at Roc-A-Fella Records.

During a recent appearance on The Art Of Dialogue, Dame reflected on Jay-Z’s competitive mentality in both music and business. According to Dash, that mindset may have played a role in Lupe Fiasco never officially joining Roc-A-Fella despite discussions that allegedly took place years ago.

“But again, he didn’t sign him,” Dame said while discussing Jay-Z. “I don’t think he would ever help a rapper be bigger than him.”

Dash went on to explain that Lupe Fiasco was at one point expected to become part of the Roc-A-Fella roster before eventually signing with Atlantic Records instead.

“Lupe was supposed to be with us,” Dame claimed. “That’s the only rapper I think… but I don’t think he saw him as a threat at the time. But he didn’t sign him for a reason.”

The comments continue Dame Dash’s long-running pattern of publicly criticizing Jay-Z and reflecting on their fractured relationship following the collapse of Roc-A-Fella’s original era.

Lupe Fiasco’s history with Jay-Z and Atlantic Records has also been discussed publicly before. Back in 2016, Lupe’s mentor Charles “Chilly” Patton alleged that Jay-Z unintentionally played a role in setting up Lupe’s later issues with Atlantic Records.

According to Chilly, Jay-Z initially told him he planned to join Atlantic Records in a major executive role and encouraged Lupe to sign there as well. However, Jay later accepted the presidency position at Def Jam Recordings instead, leaving Lupe tied to Atlantic without the structure they originally expected.

Despite the lingering industry politics and “what if” conversations, Lupe Fiasco ultimately built a respected career on his own terms. Projects like Food & Liquor and The Cool established him as one of the most lyrically acclaimed rappers of his generation.

Meanwhile, Dame Dash continues making headlines for revisiting Roc-A-Fella history and criticizing Jay-Z’s business approach. Most recently, Lupe Fiasco himself even urged Drake to purchase Dame Dash’s disputed share of Jay-Z’s classic album Reasonable Doubt, showing how these industry relationships and rivalries continue intersecting years later.
