Ryan Mitchell Bares His Soul Through Sound

One of the most promising artists working in the world of pop right now, Ryan Mitchell has just begun his long journey. With a series of twists and turns that he has already had to navigate, he draws upon a wide range of emotions. These are mixed, going from pure joy to pangs of regret and sadness, but he covers it all with the same level of dignity. Melodies have that additional richness that comes through struggle. Nothing in his songs is ever clear cut, but this simply reflects the ambiguous nature of what it means to be alive at this moment.

His songs portray this quite well. The emphasis on mental health, on toxic romance, are things that define a person. Verses portray accurately what this feels like and how these many different facets of personality blend together to create this seamless tapestry. Layer upon layer gets incorporated into his pieces yet they retain a certain vulnerability. Everything goes for this transparency for he gives himself nowhere to hide in his sparse and revelatory works. From a background in punk and rock, he’s taken the brutal honesty of those genres to reformat them into the world of pop. Rhythms, and melodies, serve as support roles to buttress the strength of his own voice.

Within the scope of his surprisingly storied career, Ryan Mitchell invites the listener on his own journey of self-discovery.
