Hip hop history is being revisited in a powerful way as Busta Rhymes prepares to release Dillagence 2, a sequel to his 2007 tribute mixtape created in honor of the late production genius J Dilla.
On Thursday night (February 20), Busta hosted an intimate listening session in New York City, giving fans and close industry friends a first taste of the upcoming project. The event featured appearances from respected DJs Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
One of the biggest surprises of the evening appears to be a collaboration with Lil Wayne. A brief snippet shared by Statik on Instagram Stories hinted at Wayne delivering bars over Dilla production — a combination fans have long dreamed about. If confirmed, it would mark the first time the Young Money icon has officially rapped over a Dilla beat.
The original Dillagence, released in 2007 and hosted by Mick Boogie, served as a heartfelt tribute following Dilla’s passing in 2006. It featured contributions from heavyweights like Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, and Raekwon, reinforcing the producer’s profound impact on hip hop.
Busta and Dilla’s partnership runs deep. Dilla contributed to six of Busta’s first seven albums, helping craft timeless records such as “Still Shining” and “Turn Me Up Some.” In a 2020 interview, Busta revealed that Dilla left him with over 300 beats — a sacred vault he has guarded carefully.
With Dillagence 2, Busta Rhymes isn’t just dropping an album — he’s continuing a legacy, ensuring that J Dilla’s unmistakable sound echoes into a new era.
