Nearly three years after the tragic death of Takeoff, the legal case surrounding his killing is moving forward. Patrick Clark, the man accused by authorities of fatally shooting the Migos rapper in 2022, is officially headed to trial.

According to court records reported by XXL, Clark appeared at a pre-trial hearing in Harris County Court on Tuesday, where a judge set his trial date for November 5. The case stems from the early morning hours of November 1, 2022, when Takeoff — born Kirshnik Khari Ball — was shot outside a Houston bowling alley following a dice game that turned violent. Investigators previously stated that the rapper was an innocent bystander during the altercation.

Takeoff’s death sent shockwaves through the music world, cutting short the life of one of hip-hop’s most respected and low-key stars. As one-third of Migos, he helped redefine Atlanta rap alongside his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, both Quavo and Offset have honored Takeoff in deeply personal ways. Last August, Offset released his solo album KIARI, which includes the emotional tribute track “Never Let Go” featuring John Legend. On the record, Offset reflects on grief, brotherhood, and the lingering pain of loss.

Quavo, meanwhile, launched The Rocket Foundation to combat gun violence and preserve Takeoff’s legacy. In 2023, he met with Vice President Kamala Harris to advocate for solutions to what he has described as a nationwide crisis.

As the November trial date approaches, many fans continue to mourn Takeoff while hoping the court proceedings bring clarity and accountability.
