Yo, basketball fans and change-makers! Let’s talk about Sonia Chase—a powerhouse who’s not just dunking on the court but also slam-dunking adversity off it. This former WNBA baller isn’t just a name in the record books; she’s the real deal, taking her game from the hardwood to the community, redefining what it means to be an athlete with a purpose.

Sonia made history as the first female player drafted to the WNBA from the University of Maryland, and she hasn’t slowed down since then. After hitting nets in the USA Basketball Olympic Festival and overseas in Greece, Turkey, and even China, she took her talents to a whole new level. But what truly sets her apart isn’t just her killer crossover on the court—it’s her hustle for the kids off it.

Enter Chase Your Dreams Academy, the nonprofit she founded that’s all about lifting underserved youth through the power of sports. With an ambitious goal of raising $1.7 million in 60 days, Sonia is diving into the grassroots game to enhance life skills and leadership for 1,500 young ballers in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. “It’s about more than just basketball,” Sonia passionately states. “It’s about crafting legacies and breaking cycles.”

This summer, her 2025 NIKE Basketball and Education Summer Camps will kick off on June 23, bringing a blend of mentorship, financial education, and athletic training. It’s a unique chance for young athletes to level up their game while learning skills that will carry them through life.

Sonia is also flexing her speaking chops, making appearances to honor contributions of the Ethiopian community in DC. Recently, she was celebrated at the 2025 Jordan Brand Classic, proving that this powerhouse reflects the heart and soul of what sports can achieve.

So, if you’re down to support a champion making real change in the lives of youth, make sure you check out Chase Your Dreams Academy. Because when you invest in these future stars, you’re betting on a brighter tomorrow.
