Michael A. Roberts: 5 Daily Habits Every Aspiring Musician Must Adopt to Find Success

It is challenging to find inspiration when you have chosen a creative path, and sometimes you’ll find yourself in a slump. Music takes more than passion; you need to be very dedicated and ready to put in a lot of work to succeed. According to Michael A. Roberts, a successful music career requires that you develop some world-class habits.

As a singer-songwriter, Roberts explains that besides falling wholly in love with music, you also need to develop the following daily habits to become a successful musician:

·      Never stop learning

Learning is a continuous process in any field. Roberts says that you need to invest time in learning when just getting started in the music industry. A lot goes into creating a song; therefore, learning the ropes will help you navigate the ever-changing industry. Remember, you need to familiarize yourself with the newest tools in the industry.

·      Know what to do with the feedback

You can either use or ignore constructive feedback. Understanding how to distinctly separate the positive from the negative is essential. Roberts explains that knowing what to use and ignore is extremely important, mainly because you cannot avoid criticism. Once you have a healthy approach in place, you are better prepared to scale new heights in the industry and handle unsolicited critique.

·      Practice your craft

While it may seem obvious, it is vital that you keep practicing and fine-tuning your skills. Like every other profession, you need to upskill yourself as a musician to keep your competitive advantage and ensure you are presenting the best version of yourself to your fans. This means practicing your instruments, songwriting skills, and more.

·      Use resources available to you

Roberts says that the online space has been a great help to most aspiring musicians and even those already in the music industry. There is no shortage of free resources that you can use to improve your skills and learn how to navigate the music industry. Use any of the widely available resources to grow yourself and better your chances of succeeding as a musician.

·      Challenge yourself

Don’t fall into a comfort zone, cautions Roberts. Once you get stuck there, it is hard to drag yourself out of it. To avoid this, challenge yourself as often as possible; this will help you explore and discover new interests, as well as nurture them.

Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow. Therefore, develop habits that help you take a step closer to your goal each day.
