Fat Joe has always been a proud New York City representative, so it was only right he accepted the opportunity to showcase his pride at Game 3 of the World Series. Just before the NY Yankees were set to face off against the LA Dodgers, the Bronx emcee stepped onto the field to get the crowd going with a special performance.
The Terror Squad member began his set from inside the Yankees dugout and walked out to the opening beat of his seminal 2004 hit, “Lean Back.” He made sure to give a shoutout to his fellow Puerto Ricans and New Yorkers before acknowledging Yankee stars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Joe was decked out in head to toe Yanks gear, rocking a special edition fitted, varsity jacket, and Timbs.
Though the set was filled with well-loved hits, fans online noticeably had a lot to say about the “Make It Rain” rapper’s performance. “We’re New York baby. The cultural center of the world. Now here to kick off our biggest sports event in a decade, Fat Joe,” one user sarcastically typed.
Many others compared the choice to Los Angeles’ selection, Ice Cube. “LA got ice cube we got f**kin fat joe just give the dodgers the trophy already man,” another fan wrote. Another viewer commented about Joe stepping on the pristine pitcher’s mound, writing, “That man Fat Joe on the mound in Tims. I KNOW them groundskeepers off camera having a heart attack.”
Additionally, a fan present at the stadium provided commentary after the game itself, posting, “Yankee Stadium is so quiet right now. You would think Fat Joe was performing again.”
Yankee fans are having a tough ride during this year’s series, as the New York team is currently down 0-3. The Dodgers are only one win away from taking the title, making the stakes higher than ever for the next game tonight (Oct. 29).
