Eminem is facing criticism from some fans following his appearance on Kid Rock’s new album, Halfway 2 Jesus. The Detroit rapper contributes to “Heal My Faith,” a collaboration that has sparked debate because of the artists’ differing political views and Eminem’s previous comments about political allegiance.
On October 17, Eminem addressed the controversy through social media while promoting the track. Rather than turning the release into a political debate, he emphasized his longstanding friendship with Kid Rock.
“Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us,” Eminem wrote in his caption, directly addressing the criticism surrounding the collaboration.
Eminem’s Past Comments Resurface
The backlash has drawn attention to Eminem’s 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards freestyle, in which he criticized Donald Trump and challenged fans who supported the then-president. He reinforced his opposition to Trump in subsequent years, including by endorsing Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
Kid Rock, meanwhile, is known for his support of Trump and the MAGA movement. That political difference has become a central point of discussion surrounding “Heal My Faith,” with some listeners questioning why Eminem would work with an artist whose views differ so sharply from his own.
For critics, the collaboration raises questions about the relationship between an artist’s public political statements and personal or professional relationships. Eminem’s response suggests that he does not view making music with a longtime friend as an endorsement of every aspect of that person’s beliefs.
Kid Rock Says Their Friendship Comes First
Kid Rock has also addressed the reaction to the song, pointing to the history he shares with Eminem. Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, he described the collaboration as an example of two longtime friends working together despite political disagreements.
Rock also said that the two artists have remained friends even though they differ politically and on other issues. He expressed hope that their relationship could serve as an example for people who have lost friendships or become estranged from family members because of differing opinions.
The collaboration therefore carries significance beyond the music itself. While Eminem and Kid Rock have a shared history in Detroit, their reunion has reignited debate over whether personal relationships should be separated from political differences.
Eminem’s latest statement makes his position clear: he sees “Heal My Faith” as a musical collaboration with an old friend, not a declaration of political allegiance. Whether that explanation satisfies disappointed listeners remains to be seen.
