Doechii Fires Back at Critics on New SZA-Assisted Single “girl, get up” as TDE Stands Firm

As the new year approached, Doechii set a bold tone with her latest release, “girl, get up,” featuring SZA. Clocking in at just over three minutes, the track finds the Florida rapper in full command, directly addressing critics and online detractors—most notably streamer Adin Ross, who has recently accused her of being an “industry plant.”

On the song, Doechii doesn’t mince words. “All that industry plant shit whack / I see it on the blogs, I see you in the chats,” she raps, pushing back against narratives questioning her rise. She goes on to challenge the double standards often placed on Black women in hip-hop, calling out those who refuse to believe her success is earned rather than manufactured.

Beyond responding to Ross, Doechii uses the track to confront misogyny in rap culture and the way fans attempt to pit female artists against one another. “They callin’ me the intellect amongst the pussy rap… them my sisters, so I can’t agree with that,” she says, rejecting divisive labels while reaffirming solidarity with other women in the genre. The song closes with a clear message: hate doesn’t equal power—and she’s saving even more for her upcoming album.

While there’s still no official release date for her debut LP, “girl, get up” strongly signals that a new era is underway for the TDE standout.

The conversation didn’t stop with the song. Top Dawg Entertainment president Punch weighed in on the growing tension between Doechii and Ross with a blunt, viral post on X (formerly Twitter). “I think Doe would actually mop little man in a head up fade,” he wrote on December 31, making it clear where the label stands.

Punch’s comment, delivered with his signature mix of humor and loyalty, suggested that TDE views the situation as more noise than threat. While neither Doechii nor Ross directly responded, the remark amplified fan support and underscored a familiar divide—artists focused on craft versus streamers chasing controversy.

For many, the moment reinforced one thing: TDE is firmly backing Doechii, and she’s more than ready to defend her spot herself.
