SZA has once again demonstrated her musical versatility with a stunning R&B cover of Eminem’s legendary track “Lose Yourself.” The cover, shared on her Instagram on May 30, reimagines the high-energy rap anthem as a tender, emotive ballad, staying true to the original lyrics while infusing it with her signature soulful touch.

In her Instagram caption, SZA clarified that this cover was a personal project rather than part of an upcoming album. “U ever just cover Eminem on some tender shit for feels?” she wrote, alongside a yoga emoji, indicating that the cover was meant to serve as a form of emotional release and mental health support.

Eminem himself acknowledged SZA’s rendition with a shocked face emoji in the comments, a subtle yet powerful nod of approval from the rap legend. Denaun Porter of D12 also expressed his love for the cover, while R&B artist DRAM praised it as “beautiful.”

While fans might be disappointed that SZA won’t officially release the cover, its impact is undeniable, particularly as it coincided with Eminem’s release of “Houdini,” the lead single from his upcoming album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” The track features Eminem’s trademark humor and biting commentary, with references to Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting incident and R. Kelly’s scandal.

“Houdini” sees Eminem rapping over a whimsical beat that samples the Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra,” making light of contemporary issues with his sharp wordplay. He references Megan Thee Stallion’s incident: “If I was to ask for Megan Thee/ Stallion if she would collab with me/ Would I really have a shot at a feat?” and follows with a quip about R. Kelly: “In the coupe, leaning back my seat/ Bumpin’ R. Kelly’s favorite group, the black guy pees.”

SZA’s heartfelt interpretation of “Lose Yourself” juxtaposed with Eminem’s playful yet provocative new track highlights the diverse artistic expressions within the hip-hop and R&B genres. Their interaction on social media underscores the mutual respect and admiration between artists, bridging different musical styles and generations.
