Megan Thee Stallion is embracing her softer side with the official arrival of her “LOVER GIRL” era. The Grammy-winning rapper dropped her highly anticipated second single of the year on Friday (Oct. 24), giving fans a confident yet romantic new anthem.

Sampling Total’s 1996 classic “Kissin’ You,” the track delivers a smooth blend of R&B nostalgia and Megan’s signature swagger. Though snippets have circulated online for weeks, the full version proves even more infectious. In the opening verse, Megan declares, “I had to lock in when I found out he could handle me / Some ngas call me extra, my nga call me pressure / This s**t be easy when you find somebody on your level.”

While she doesn’t name him outright, “LOVER GIRL” appears to be inspired by her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson. The two went public in July and were recently spotted together courtside at one of his preseason games on Oct. 15.

The second verse heats things up even more, with Megan dropping playful nods to Gucci Mane’s “Freaky Gurl” and the ‘90s rom-com Love Jones. She keeps things Houston through and through, rapping, “I’m from Splash Town, you know I keep it wet / Might’ve gave him that good, but I gave him the best.”

“LOVER GIRL” follows her April release “Whenever,” marking another glimpse into what could be her next major project. Though Megan hasn’t confirmed if these singles will appear on MEGAN: ACT III, she hinted earlier this year on TikTok Live that the album is in progress and that she’s currently considering potential collaborations.

Up next, Megan returns to her hometown to host her annual Hottieween celebration on Oct. 31. “This year, Hottieween is gonna be bigger than ever,” she promised alongside the official event flyer.
