Base the Great, born and raised in The Bronx, New York, is a talented 22-year-old Puerto Rican artist who started making music at the age of 11. When asked about his name, Base explained that it represents a solid structure that holds everything together, which he felt matched his personality. His dad suggested “the Great” to make it catchy, and thus, Base the Great was born. Base has always been serious about his music career. Music has been a significant part of his life, and he fell in love with creating music during his freshman year of high school. He cited Drake and J Cole as his inspirations, admiring how they carry themselves without having to follow the wave but become it. Despite having entertained the thought of quitting music in the past, Base continued to pursue his passion. He believes that nothing is given, and everything is earned, so he would rather try and fail than quit. As of now, Base is an independent artist, working to build a foundation for his career and making sure things are done correctly. Base has performed many times in his life, having traveled across the country from the ages of 8 to 18 to dance. He has also had a few shows for his music in small venues to get used to having a different role on stage. When asked about his best song, Base said he has many personal favorites but feels that it is always subjective to what he’s making the song for and how it resonates with him at the time. His most recent record, “Aim,” is his favorite at the moment. Base is always developing and crafting his sound to be organically himself, but he would love to work with plenty of artists. He will be collaborating with Jahlil Lemay soon, as they have done a lot of work together for the next few singles. Base would ideally love to open for someone from his city, but he’d also like to open for A Boogie, J Cole, or Jay Z. Base the Great is an artist to watch out for. With his passion for music and solid foundation, he is poised to achieve great success in the future.
