Single Review: New Jersey trap rap artist YungVV continues his hot streak with latest release ‘Prada Me.’

Sicklerville-based artist YungVV is capping off his most successful year with a string of end-of-year single drops. ‘Prada Me’ marks one of his most pumped-up and confident songs yet.

Innovative trap artist YungVV has released his latest single, ‘Prada Me,’ as he shows no sign of slowing down his recent outpouring of creativity. The new track comes hot on the heels of several other significant milestones in 2023, all of which have proved that YungVV – whose real name is Julian Mahan – is one of the most serious emerging names in the business.

Hailing from New Jersey, YungVV began making a name for himself on the music scene as far back as 2019. While studying at Temple University, he quietly began pushing some of his tracks into the world via SoundCloud (following the path set by many of the most successful trap-rap artists in the game).

His SoundCloud releases – shared under the moniker of ‘VV$ Julz’ – were immediate hits. The songs were backed by production elements, which prized dirty, abrasive basslines and quickfire lyrical bursts focused on sex, violence, and local vernacular – all held together by VV’s intoxicating voice. In sum, these short, up-tempo tracks felt like shots of adrenalin delivered right into your eardrums.

‘VV$ Julz’ dropped out of college following the success of his initial releases and changed his name to YungVV moving forward. As an artist, he drew inspiration from artists like Biggie Smalls, Drake, G Herbo, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Yachty, all while setting his path as a creative.

The last 12 months have involved many defining moments for YungVV. He has been at his creative peak in 2023, releasing dozens of tracks showing the full breadth of his trap-rap mastery. Among the highlights that fans have enjoyed this year is YungVV’s debut mixtape, The V Tape, showcasing six songs that prove he’s an accomplished artist. He later followed this up with his debut EP, Numb2Pain, a futuristic seven-track mini-concept album, which offered the music world some of the most inventive trap sounds that they’d ever heard.

Flash forward to the present. YungVV has added even more releases, including teaming up with artist N.F.L Ahype for five songs on the Everything Matches Red EP.

His latest track, ‘Prada Me’ (that’s “proud of me” for anyone who needs it slowed down), feels like YungVV squaring off the busiest and most potent year of his life.

On this rapid 2-minute track, he returns to similar themes explored in previous songs (staying sharp mentally in the face of enemies, haters, and competitors). Still, he also hypes himself up and, finally, seems to be taking time to enjoy what it feels like to get a taste of success after years of hustling: “My mama prada me, my brother prada me, shit eeryone prada me” he sings in the song’s blistering chorus.

They have every reason to feel proud…YungVV continues to show us what it’s like when a star’s at the top of their game.
