Yo, what’s up fam? It’s your boy Joe Walker back at it again with some fresh legal drama surrounding none other than R. Kelly. So, check it, R. Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, is hitting the appeals court with some serious fire, aiming to revise his hefty 30-year sentence. And guess what? She’s bringing up frat culture into the mix.
Now, hold up, you might be wondering, “What does frat culture have to do with R. Kelly’s case?” Well, according to Bonjean, college fraternities could be considered as racketeering organizations under the law used to nail R. Kelly.
You remember that law, right? The one that got him convicted on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement? Yeah, that one.
Bonjean’s out here arguing that prosecutors went too far by using a racketeering statute meant to take down organized crime to come after R. Kelly. She’s straight-up saying it ain’t fair to pin Kelly as the mastermind behind some kind of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) from ’94 to 2018.
According to her, it’s not like Kelly and his crew were out here intentionally recruiting girls for all that messed-up stuff. She’s throwing down the real talk, saying there are plenty of other groups, like frat houses, that could fit the bill for being RICO enterprises if we start going down that road.
Now, the judges are getting in on the action too, grilling both Bonjean and the prosecutor about how this case has been handled. Assistant U.S. attorney Kayla Bensing is standing her ground, saying Kelly had this whole system set up with his crew to basically lure young people into his world and then take over their lives. Heavy stuff, right?
And that’s not even the end of it! R. Kelly ain’t playing around. He’s out here suing the U.S. government over some seized commissary funds. Talk about keeping the legal battles coming.
So, there you have it, folks. R. Kelly’s legal saga continues, and this time, frat culture is front and center. Stay tuned for more updates on this wild ride!
