Q.) What is your name/stage name?
A.) “James ‘Afro Preachah’ Porter The 3rd.”
Q.) Where are you from?
A.) “I grew up in Kansas City, MO. Moved to Minnesota when I graduated High School.”
Q.) What is your favorite thing about living there?
A.) “It’s the original Minnesota sound! The funk. You can’t get it anywhere else.
It’s a perfect merging with Hip-Hop.”
Q.) Tell me this, if you could have any superpower what would that be and why?
A.) “A KungFu Grandmaster! The ability to push your mind, body and spirit like Goku on DragonBallZ would be awesome!”
Q.) How do you think that superpower would assist you with your music career?
A.) “The discipline, the focus. The ability to always finish what I start is invaluable.”
Q.) When did you realize a career in music was what you’d be pursuing and what made you realize that?
A.) “I realized it once my grandfather start letting me, and friends start doing Christian Hip-Hop in church. I got it honestly from by dad and grandpa. Dr. Rev. James Porter Sr. and Rev. James Porter Jr. Dad is a musician and song writer. Plays about 14 instruments. Grandpa was a lead singer. It’s how
my roots in MN Hip-Hop funk began. ”
Q.) Is there anything you’ve accomplished this far in your music career that surprised even yourself?
A.) “Yes, making it to the nation of China to do music and fashion. Being able to work internationally is one of my favorite accomplishments as an independent artist so for. Sharing my sound with people that are different from me is the rush I’m looking for.”
Q.) Given its harsh demeanor, what is one of the better parts of being in the music industry for you personally?
A.) “Right now calling my own shots. Having that direct line to my fans to know what they want. With so many entertainment relationships on the rocks right now. Being independent gives me the chance to keep Hip-Hop the way it was intended. Love, peace, unity and having fun!”
Q.) What should fans be on the lookout for??
A.) “2023 is going to be our biggest year coming. New album, music videos, fashions, sounds and live tours. I got some good cooks in the kitchen. The team is working. LST, FLAMESQUADDJMC and DJ Warlord.“
