Michael Bailer Is Redefining Trap In The North One Anthem At A Time

Edmonton might not be the first place people think of when they talk about trap music, but Michael Bailer is flipping that narrative. The genre-bending artist, producer, and audio engineer has been quietly building a wave in Alberta—one that’s now ready to crash through borders.

Michael’s musical roots run deep. He started recording back in 2012 with a Christian rap track, but by the time 2023 hit, everything shifted. That year, he dropped “Know Me,” the first track that felt like him—unapologetically raw, melodic, and filled with hunger. It marked the start of a new chapter: darker 808s, sleeker flows, and a sound that blended heavy emotion with head-nodding bounce.

Heavily influenced by creative powerhouses like Kanye West, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and The Weeknd, Michael draws from multiple corners of hip-hop and R&B. But instead of mimicking, he experiments. His songs feel like late-night drives, heartbreak with a trap drumline, and ambition wrapped in autotune. “I’ve always been a hybrid,” he says. “Trap with depth. Pain with polish.”

That balance is front and center on his latest single, “GO”—a moody, high-energy record that’s already picking up steam across streaming platforms. It’s just the beginning of what he’s calling his most evolved era yet. His debut album, Angel Shadows, is in the works now, and according to him, it’s his “realest” work to date.

While he’s not signed to a label, Michael’s keeping his options open. He’s looking for more than a deal—he’s looking for alignment. “If it helps the vision grow, I’m with it,” he says. And the vision is big: music festivals, international stages, and a collaborative dream moment with Travis Scott.

Through it all, Michael stays grounded. He credits much of his journey to the people who’ve supported him from day one—his tight-knit group of friends and his girlfriend, who’s helped him stay focused even when the grind got tough. “They kept me going when the streams weren’t there yet. That’s love,” he says.

Michael Bailer isn’t just an artist to watch—he’s an artist to feel. His music is for the outsiders, the self-made, the ones chasing something bigger. And with Angel Shadows on the way, he’s ready to prove that the next great wave in trap music isn’t coming from Atlanta or LA—it’s coming from the heart of Edmonton.
