A posthumous album from DMX is coming soon. Rather than hone-in on his sometimes dark yet always keen lyricism and hardcore Hip-Hop, the work is said to focus on the late rapper’s spiritual side, which was also apparent in his past work.
According to Billboard, Let Us Pray: Chapter X is an eight-track project due on Dec. 13, 2024, via Def Jam/UMe. It is set to combine DMX’s prayers with original music created by Grammy-winning gospel songwriter/producer Warryn Campbell.
“Working on Let Us Pray: Chapter X has been one of the most fulfilling experiences for me as a creative,” expressed Campbell in a statement. “When you hear the voice of DMX, it inspires instant creativity, and what better way to showcase who X really was than through prayer. I believe I can speak for MC Lyte, Killer Mike, Snoop Dogg, LeCrae, Mary Mary, Lena Byrd Miles, and Terrace Martin when I say it was an honor and privilege to be part of this amazing work.”
As described by a press release, in Let Us Pray: Chapter X, “Campbell notably crafted new original music to accompany the signature prayers of DMX and instrumentally scored these spoken-word messages straight from the artist’s heart.”
DMX, born Earl Simmons, died in 2021 at the age of 50. His official cause of death was determined to be a cocaine-induced heart attack.
“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX,” shared the family at the time.
Let Us Pray: Chapter X follows the Ruff Ryder rhymer’s first posthumous release, 2021’s Exodus. His seventh and final album Undisputed was issued in 2012. Take a listen below.
