Why Multi Platinum Producer Scorp Dezel is Betting on Africa

For multi platinum-selling producer and songwriter Oluwaseyi “Scorp” Dezel, music has always been about more than just making hits. His latest move? Creating opportunities for underrepresented artists in Nigeria through an initiative that’s becoming one of the most exciting things in the Afrobeat world.
Born to a Nigerian father, Scorp took a personal trip back to Nigeria in September which was his first time visiting family there. That trip lit a fire. Within six months, he returned and then launched a full-scale writing and production camp in Lagos, Nigeria. Here is a video on his instagram that recaps a small part of if: https://www.instagram.com/scorpdezel100/reel/DKsRSpwyNBx/
The goal was simple but powerful: give talented artists and writers a space to build catalogs, connect with others in the industry, and get their names out. Over the course of the camp, 20–30 songs were made, several of which are already making waves online. Labels came through. Big records were written. “99” hit #1. And the culture felt it.
Scorp’s vision isn’t just local but it’s clear now he has his mind set on global. He’s investing in the future of Afrobeat by giving creatives the one thing they need most: opportunity.
