Jermaine Dupri Opens Up About Long-Standing Tension with Usher & Jagged Edge Over Dru Hill Collaboration

Jermaine Dupri’s legacy in R&B is filled with hits—but some came at a price. In a candid moment on the R&B Money podcast, the So So Def architect revisited a decision that ruffled major feathers with two of his closest collaborators: Usher and Jagged Edge.

The controversy centers around Dupri’s remix of Dru Hill’s classic “In My Bed.” What seemed like just another opportunity to flex his producer skills turned into unexpected drama. “I didn’t realize there was real tension between Jagged Edge and Dru Hill,” Dupri admitted. But once the remix hit the airwaves, the backlash was immediate. “Jagged Edge hit me like, ‘Yo, what’s that about?’” he said. Even Usher wasn’t happy, personally calling Dupri to voice his frustration.

Though Dupri later tried to make peace—delivering another hit remix for Jagged Edge—the wounds haven’t entirely healed. Decades later, he says the tension still lingers. It’s a reminder that in the world of R&B, creative moves can come with emotional consequences—and loyalty sometimes weighs heavier than a hit record.
