In a delightful twist leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics, R&B sensation SZA and gymnastics legend Simone Biles took part in a spirited handstand contest. This friendly competition, showcased in a promotional video released on Monday (July 1), saw SZA sharing her deep respect for Biles’ extraordinary abilities.During their warm-up, SZA playfully admitted to Biles, “I don’t care about my nails. I’m scared to lose.” The singer, who has her own roots in gymnastics before pivoting to a music career, highlighted her ongoing competitive nature. “You’re like my wildest dream,” the St. Louis-born artist expressed. “I was nowhere near as cool as you […] I just have never seen anything like you — no one has.”In an unexpected turn, SZA managed to hold her handstand slightly longer than Biles. “That was so good,” commented the 27-time gold medalist. The short video concluded with a “to be continued” teaser, suggesting more joint endeavors between the two icons.Joseph Lee, Senior Vice President of NBC Universal, praised the duo’s camaraderie in a press release, saying, “SZA and Simone’s mutual respect for each other’s skills gives us a glimpse of the amazing competition awaiting us at the Paris Olympics. Their shared enthusiasm highlights the cultural excitement we’ll witness as these athletes showcase their talents.”Simone Biles had already secured her spot for the Olympics by winning the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday (June 30) with an impressive 117.225 points. The upcoming Games, set from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, will mark Biles’ third participation in the global event. On the music front, SZA is gearing up for her next album. At BST Hyde Park 2024, she excitedly asked her audience, “New album, you ready?” Additionally, she teased her fans with a snippet of a new track titled “Storytime” on her social media platforms.
