The hip-hop community pauses to remember Prodigy, one half of the iconic duo Mobb Deep, who passed away on June 20, 2017, from accidental choking while hospitalized for sickle cell disease. Seven years later, Havoc, his musical partner and friend, took to social media to honor Prodigy’s memory and reflect on their storied career.

“Missing my brother,” Havoc wrote on Instagram, sharing poignant photos of Prodigy. “Today marks 7 years, feels like just yesterday we were rocking them stages and reflecting on our journey.” In a heartfelt throwback post captioned “Day one’s,” Havoc reminisced about their early days, a powerful reminder of their deep bond that captivated fans worldwide.

Recently, Havoc sparked excitement with comments on a potential Mobb Deep biopic. Speaking to TMZ Hip Hop, he suggested that Tray Chaney and JD Williams, known for their roles on “The Wire,” would be ideal to portray Mobb Deep. Chaney, in particular, has been campaigning for this role, sharing on X, “YO I want that MOBB DEEP STORY Next. Me & JD can Play HAVOC & PRODIGY!” His enthusiasm underscores the lasting impact Mobb Deep has had on artists and fans alike.

Although a biopic isn’t officially underway, Havoc is far from idle. He’s been busy with the supergroup GUTTR, alongside Ras Kass and RJ Payne, and is deeply involved in creating a new Mobb Deep album with unreleased vocals from Prodigy. “I’m actively working on a Mobb Deep album now,” Havoc shared on People’s Party last summer. “The family blessed me with a bunch of vocals [by Prodigy], and as soon as I leave here, I’m goin’ back to work.”

In addition to this, Havoc is also collaborating with Method Man on a full-length project, proving his unwavering dedication to his craft. “I’m always working, constantly working. I got a joint with Method Man coming out soon. It’s an album, yeah. I produced the whole album,” he mentioned.

As Havoc continues to forge ahead, he ensures that Prodigy’s legacy is celebrated and remembered. Through heartfelt tributes and new music, he keeps the spirit of Mobb Deep alive, honoring the profound influence they’ve had on the hip-hop world.
