Russell Simmons finds himself in the midst of legal turmoil as he faces service of process in two separate lawsuits, both catching him off guard while he was in Indonesia.

As revealed by court documents accessed by HipHopDX, Simmons received the unwelcome news of being served on March 5, with the official affidavits filed on Friday, March 22. Daniel Ayoub, the process server, managed to locate Simmons at the Gdas Bali Health & Wellness Spa, much to the mogul’s dismay.

In a moment of candid frustration, Simmons exclaimed, “Ah, damn, really?” upon being served.

Ayoub, recounting the encounter, mentioned Simmons’ evident confusion as he discussed the unexpected situation over the phone, presumably with his legal representative. “This South African guy just handed me an envelope. And he’s with a big Black guy,” Simmons was heard saying. “Should I open the doc now, or wait til later? How did these people get in here?”

Ayoub clarified that the service was related to matters originating from “the state of New York,” indicating one of the lawsuits, specifically the defamation suit filed in New York Supreme Court by Drew Dixon. Dixon, a former Def Jam associate, previously accused Simmons of sexual assault in the 2020 documentary On the Record. The current lawsuit revolves around statements Simmons made on the In Depth with Graham Besinger podcast in December 2023, allegedly aimed at discrediting Dixon and tarnishing her reputation.

Additionally, Ayoub served Simmons in another legal matter, a pending sexual assault lawsuit filed in federal court by a Jane Doe, a former employee at Simmons’ label, initially filed in February.

This lawsuit, filed under the pseudonym Jane Doe in a New York federal court, alleges multiple offenses including false imprisonment, battery, emotional distress, and violations of gender-motivated violence laws.

The plaintiff recounts an incident where Simmons, inviting her to his apartment under the guise of work, allegedly engaged in aggressive behavior, ultimately resulting in rape. Despite protests, Simmons reportedly continued to harass her at the workplace, leading to her resignation in 1997.

Simmons’ legal troubles seem to be far from over, and the repercussions of these allegations reverberate through the hip-hop community, casting a shadow over his legacy.
