Keion White is recovering after a frightening incident early Monday morning that cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory post-Super Bowl gathering in San Francisco.
According to reports from ABC7 Eyewitness News, the San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman was shot in the ankle around 4 a.m. on February 9. White had been hosting a party at a nightclub located on the 17th block of Mission Street when the situation escalated. Authorities say a verbal altercation broke out between two groups inside the venue. During the dispute — which allegedly involved rapper Lil Baby — gunfire erupted, and White was struck by a bullet. No suspect has been publicly identified at this time.
In a statement, the San Francisco Police Department confirmed that officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the victim suffering from a non-life-threatening injury. Police spokesperson Evan Sernoffsky noted that investigators are actively pursuing multiple leads as they work to determine what led to the gunfire.
Fortunately, White’s injuries are not believed to be career-threatening. He underwent surgery Monday afternoon and is expected to make a recovery. While White has yet to publicly comment on the incident, the 49ers organization has stated that it will provide updates when appropriate.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie also addressed the shooting, calling the violence “unacceptable” and expressing hope for White’s speedy recovery. He added that city officials are coordinating with law enforcement and team leadership to ensure public safety.
The incident comes months after 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall survived a shooting during an attempted robbery in 2024 — a troubling pattern the franchise undoubtedly hopes to leave behind.
