Kaye Starh The Voice Of The Island And Heart Of The People

From the sun-soaked parish of Saint Catherine, Jamaica, Kaye Starh is a dynamic reggae artist whose life story is as textured and vibrant as the rhythms she creates. With a voice that carries the warmth of the Caribbean breeze and lyrics grounded in truth, healing, and legacy, she embodies the essence of modern roots music.

Raised in a household where melodies were more common than mealtime prayers, Kaye’s early life was steeped in music. Her grandfather blazed trails in gospel, her uncle helped define the ska era, and her mother and aunt brought soul to every church gathering. That environment shaped her love for storytelling and sound — a foundation that would one day evolve into a powerful musical mission.

Before reggae called her home, Kaye explored other stages. As a teen at Rosemount Junior High, she dove into drama, poetry, and pageantry — discovering her creative voice through performance. She earned accolades for her charisma and grace, standing out in regional competitions as a multifaceted talent with potential far beyond the runway.

Life took her to Falmouth, Trelawny, where she immersed herself in grassroots cultural work — organizing events, walking runways, and celebrating Jamaica’s heritage from the ground up. She later returned to Saint Catherine and moved to Kingston, where she earned a diploma in midwifery. Music paused, but never disappeared.

Her re-entry into the music world came unexpectedly. While studying travel and tourism, an impromptu rendition of a Destiny’s Child song caught the attention of a classmate who referred her to a local studio. That fateful recommendation led her to Anchor Records and into the creative circle of African Star, Capleton’s longtime collaborator.

What followed was a natural rise. Kaye began recording and performing, quickly earning a reputation as a gifted background vocalist. Between 1997 and 1999, she toured and recorded with the legendary Gregory Isaacs. Later that year, she made her official debut with the iconic Black Uhuru, cementing her place in reggae history.

Kaye Starh is more than an artist — she is a vessel for ancestral strength, feminine power, and Jamaican soul. Her journey is one of purpose and persistence, with every note she sings carrying echoes of the generations before her.
