GloRilla is proving that true success is about uplifting others. On December 18, the Memphis rapper returned to her alma mater, Melrose High School in the city’s Orange Mound neighborhood, with a generous $25,000 donation. This contribution will fund the creation of the Gloria H. Woods Media Center, named after her real name, in a touching tribute to her roots. The donation marks a full-circle moment for the rapper, who once walked the halls of the school and is now giving back to inspire future generations.

The $25,000 donation will go towards several key projects, including the transformation of the school library into a modern, collaborative space with comfortable seating and allergen-free carpets. A portion of the funds will also be used to update learning software, providing students with cutting-edge tools to enhance their research and productivity.

During her visit, GloRilla shared her emotional connection to the school and the importance of giving back. “To be able to create something I wished for growing up warms my heart,” she told the students, who received the announcement as an early Christmas gift. Her donation is not just financial—it’s a commitment to creating educational opportunities and fostering creativity.

Additionally, the donation will launch the GloRilla Mentorship Program, offering personal development opportunities such as field trips and direct video chats with the rapper herself. A portion of the funds, $2,500, will support the Melrose Clothes Closet, providing students in need with essentials like clothing and toiletries. Another $2,500 will strengthen family-school relationships through the Office of Family Engagement, helping build deeper community connections.

The Gloria H. Woods Media Center is set to open next summer, symbolizing hope, opportunity, and the possibility for success for future Melrose students. GloRilla is not only a rising star but a powerful example of how dreams can come true—and how the greatest victories come from lifting others.

In 2024, GloRilla earned two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song and Rap Performance, following her first nomination in 2023 for her breakout single, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).”
