A$AP Rocky continues to prove that his artistry extends far beyond music. The Harlem native recently attended the New York premiere of Highest 2 Lowest at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on August 11, 2025, and opened up in a new Perfect Magazine cover story about his creative vision and evolving legacy.
Rocky, known for constantly redefining the boundaries between fashion, music, and film, shared that his motivation is rooted in creativity—not clout. “I don’t do all these different endeavors just because I have to be the first at the top of the mountain and plant the flag,” he explained. “It’s not about who did it first. It’s about who did it the best.”
For Rocky, every project serves a bigger purpose. “Everything I do is based on building legacy,” he said. “That’s why I’m not so eager to just drop, drop, drop. I don’t do things to stay relevant or keep my name in the conversation. I want to do things that feel natural—creative, ambitious things that truly satisfy me.”
The rapper and fashion icon is now exploring acting, starring as Yung Felon in Spike Lee’s latest film Highest 2 Lowest, alongside Hollywood legend Denzel Washington. The experience, he said, was nothing short of a dream come true. “As a New Yorker, it was surreal to be between Denzel and Spike. Their dynamic is historical, and I’m honored to be part of their legacy,” he shared.
Rocky credited Lee for giving him creative freedom to shape his character, incorporating elements inspired by his own upbringing. “They put me in an environment that felt familiar, and it allowed me to take Yung Felon to real places,” he added.
Highest 2 Lowest is now streaming on Apple TV and Prime Video.
