Carly X’s first single, “It’s On,” came out in October of 2020. It was a Halloween-themed rap song that emphasized her desire to pursue a career in music. Carly X draws influence from a wide range of artists, and songs like SugarHill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight inspired her to write music. After working with Doritos and Busta Rhymes some years ago, she was inspired to continue her music career.
Her finest songs/beats are the ones she hasn’t released. Lowkey is now her favorite song that she has ever written, and it will be released this month. “Going Dummy,” however, is her favorite of the tracks she has released so far.
She hasn’t signed with a label yet, but she’d be open to doing so, as well as doing distribution. A contract must be perfect for her and not cause her any problems later on in her life. She stresses the importance of a good match. Carly X is a wise artist that has been all gas no breaks all year. We recommend you add her music to your playlist today!
We had the opportunity to speak with Carly X and ask some questions:
1. What’s your name?
Carly X
2. Where are you from?
Long Island, New York
3. How old are you?
I’m 22 years old.
4 .When did you start making music?
I’ve been writing music since the age of
6. I started recording at the age of 12, and I am now starting to make records and release them professionally at the age of 22.
5. How serious are you about your career?
I am starting to take my career very seriously. Now that I have supporters that are always eager for new music, it makes me take what I do a lot more seriously. The supporters are the ones changing my love for music from a hobby to a career.
6. Have you ever thought about quitting music?
Almost everyday lol. Chasing this music dream is mentally exhausting. There’s so many people out here trying to do the same thing so I often feel overwhelmed. As much as it may stress me out, creating music is the only thing that brings me joy. Now I try to keep my focus solely on creating and let the business be business. Once I lock in and pay more attention to the artist side of me, all the other stressors become minimized.
7. Who inspires you the most?
It’s so hard to pick one. The artists that have inspired me the most throughout my musical journey are J Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Lauryn Hill. Some artists that inspire me currently are IDK and Tobi Lou. I love how IDK delivers bars in a way that isn’t dumbed down yet his songs can turn a crowd up. I also love the way Tobi Lou can take an experience whether happy or sad and make it joyful.
8.What got you into making music?
I began writing after hearing songs like Rappers Delight by SugarHill Gang. I wrote songs and poetry at 6. I started recording at 12 at my cousins’ home studio, and I’ve continued to focus on rap. The youtube space during my middle school years had a strong impact on me seeing teenagers take over the internet with their music. That inspired me to do the same.
9.Who is your favorite producer?
My favorite mainstream producer is Pharrell/The Neptunes. Sometimes I hear a song and I’m instantly like ‘Pharell definitely produced this” and sure enough I look it up and he did. I love the four count that he always incorporates in the beginning of his records and I love how his production makes me feel good. My other favorite producers are the ones on my future projects which have helped me make complete records that are meaningful to me. I hope to release these records next year and give credit to these awesome producers I have found all across the world.
10. What is one of your best songs/beats?
My unreleased songs are my favorite. At the moment my favorite song that I’ve made is coming out soon and it’s called Lowkey. But out of my released songs, I’d say Going Dummy.
11. Are you signed to a record or label?
No
12. Have you ever performed?
Yes, I have had the pleasure of opening up for Wiz Khalifa in Las Vegas, and I was chosen for this opportunity by Doritos, All Def, and Busta Rhymes
13. If you could open for any artist who would it be?
If I could only pick one I would pick J Cole. I think my music would resonate with his crowd the most because we both make honest records.
14. What’s next for you?
New music is definitely coming soon. I’m gearing to release two singles together at the end of this month so be on the lookout for that.
